Africa finally seems to be heading towards the path of unity – the only ingredient needed to make the continent great again.
In what appears to be a good move, Botswana has followed in the footsteps of Ethiopia to adopt the visa-on-arrival policy for Africans.
Among other things, this will boost tourism and business around African countries.
The free flow of Africans around the continent has always been a worthy point of solution that arises whenever the issue of African unity and development arises.
Africa needs regional integration if she is to walk towards achieving her potentials, and it appears African nations are beginning to accept and adopt this model, which no doubt is a welcome development.
Botswana has announced its decision to offer tourists visas on arrival effective November 24, 2018.
The announcement was made by President Mokgweetsi Masisi, who is expected to attend this weekend’s extraordinary African Union summit in Ethiopia.
In a press release, the government said:
“In an effort to improve the ease of doing business in Botswana,Botswana will offer TOURIST VISA at point of entry effective 24th November 2018. This announcement was made by HE, The President of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi at the HLCC meeting held today (15-Nov-2018)”
Although the country is yet to share further details on the policy, they have continued to receive applauds for the decision.
Botswana has continued to make the news lately for all the right reasons, and there is no doubt that it is a country that tourists will love to visit.
Just a few days ago, a report released by International Police Science Association (IPSA) and the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) placed Botswana as the country with the best Police force in Africa.
The ranking is based on the model of internal security: capacity, process, legitimacy, and outcomes. Botswana has been ranked to top in Africa on all these fronts, so tourists will have very little to worry about when visiting the country.
The African Union (AU) has set a 2018 deadline for the removal of visa requirements for all African citizens in all African countries.
However, with less than 45 days to the end of the year, only 22% of African countries have complied.
Rwanda, Benin and recently Ethiopia, are some of the African nations that relaxed visa requirements for all African citizens this year.
