The Northwest of Cameroun with its capital of Bamenda has long been ravaged by an ongoing year-long armed conflict. On Tuesday officials of the region stated that people fleeing from the northwest English speaking region of the country to other regions will be subjected to thorough inspection.
The region’s chief of transport, Che Gilbert Ngong, stated that this step will serve as a measure to secure and protect those travelling out of the region, as they will be required to provide additional information such as the reason for their departure, the name of the receiver and his or her contact at their departure points.
Ngong further stated that anybody who will not comply with this order, shall have his or her journey cancelled.
The directive comes three days after authorities in the Southwest, the other Anglophone region, disallowed families from relocating to French-speaking side of the country following mass exodus of people from the restless region.
According to the United Nations, more than 180,000 people have been displaced internally and at least 30,000 persons have escaped to Nigeria where they now live in refugee camps.
